Natural displacement of pollution from the great lakes.

چکیده
A simplified mathematical model of a lake system indicates that, if the pollution of the Great Lakes were discontinued, the natural flow through the lower Great Lakes would be sufficient to remove about 90 per cent of the waste in about 20 years. On the other hand, hundreds of years would be required to displace the pol lution from Lake Michigan and Lake Superior.

The Great Lakes constitute the largest body of surface freshwater on earth and are one of the planet's most valuable natural resources. Home to roughly 36 million people, the Great Lakes basin is a major industrial and agricultural region of North America. The Canadian portion of the basin contains one-third of the Canadian population and half of all the manufacturing activity in Canada. The he...

The over 3,000 kilometers of Great Lakes shoreline in Ontario is home to several million people. It is a rich complex natural ecosystem with a diversity of natural features and landforms ranging from steep vertical rock cliffs, sandy beaches and dunes, glacial till shorelines, to wetlands. The Great Lakes shoreline has also experienced tremendous land use pressures and human activities most not...
متن کاملThe Bernoulli Ritz-collocation method to the solution of modelling the pollution of a system of lakes
Pollution has become a very serious threat to our environment. Monitoring pollution is the rst step toward planning to save the environment. The use of dierential equations, monitoring pollution has become possible. In this paper, a Ritz-collocation method is introduced to solve non-linear oscillatory systems such as modelling the pollution of a system of lakes. The method is based upon Bernoul...

In this study, otolith morphology and otolith contour from big-scale sand smelt, Atherina boyeri were analyzed in Lake Eğirdir and Lake İznik (natural lakes), and Hirfanlı Dam Lake (artificial lake). The otolith contour and sixteen otolith morphological characters such as width, depth, shape, sulcus acusticus shape, ostium, cauda, rostrum size-shape, and thickness, antirostrum size-shape, and t...
